This death was very sudden as well as sad. However, I noticed Drake looking frail and skinny since his return to Salem through Chad's Abigail arc. The signs were there, people noticed. But a press release said all was well and fears were alleviated. (Pancreatic) Cancer can be unpredictable. Hopefully, we know more soon about his battle for it was clear he wanted to continue working.

That being said, film production is 6-7 months ahead of the airdates. There's still more John Black to come. How the show will handle the exit depends on the angle. We've had notable DOOL veterans pass on in a span of two years, notably John Aniston and Bill Hayes, and the writers find ways to write them off with dignity while also holding true to their character. Victor dies in a sabotaged plane offscreen while Doug will (very) soon be revealed to have probably died in his sleep in the Horton House like Tom Horton in 1994. I'd say John's exit will involve either a Black Patch case that ends in his death or maybe life will imitate art and John will have cancer and pass offscreen with Marlena at his side. Although, I can't see Drake letting John succumb to the disease onscreen, the possibility is there. Regardless, another great character and a great actor have left this world.

My first experience with John came through the Salem Stalker arc. Initially I was team Marlena/Roman but when the Island arc came on, seeing Drake becoming a total bad--s, I was team John/Marlena for life even with his rug addiction arc. Watching his past work before then also showed how well his character was handled in certain arcs, complex as they may have been. The last four years since returning to the show were good and John's wit and action star motif still gave me reasons to come back.

DOOL will truly not be the same without Drake. He will be missed and my heart, from one actor to another, goes out to his colleagues and family.

First of all, I will say that Ron made good stories and homages in the long run. Were some dragged out longer than they should've been, YES. However, they were still enjoyable.

The soap within a soap idea has ran as flat as a soda pop without a lid. It was cringy during Abe's kidnap arc but I understood that it was poking fun at soaps while also contributing to Abe's plot with an actor conspiring with the villain (Whitley). That was smart writing overall.

Here, now, it doesn't really work other than as a void filler, a bad one it that. That being said, I will point out some good coming out of it.

*Hattie returning with Deidre at the helm has been delightful. Her range as an actress shows when two distinct characters are on the canvas.

*The Chanel/Alex dynamic is off the charts. I'm still debating whether or not I'll enjoy a potential affair between the two but so far, excellent.

*Kate having to work with Bonnie and Hattie and deal with. Kind of sweet to she her head spin on the "dreadful" thought.

Now, the bad:

*The dialogue is so silly (bad) that it is insulting to the writers who put true effort into these REAL stories for the REAL audience, who are not responding positively to this arc.

*Leo and Hattie's mistaken identity subplot went longer than it should've. Glad it's over now but it would've worked as a 1-2 episode stint as the comedy fell flat very fast.

*Bonnie slowly becoming a diva. I feel it will undo much of her growth as a person that her usual wit and charm won't be able to salvage it.

*Lastly, we may have to deal with arc all the way to April/May 2025. A long time to wait as everything has been filmed 6-7 months ahead from now.

I say that because, for those who do not know, Ron has exited the show with material already written up to at least April 2025. The new writers, DOOL veterans Paula Cwikly and Jeanne Marie Ford, will either cut it off or continue to roll with before it just disappears like Jennifer's new career or Marlena's radio show in the 70s/80s.

Why is Ron leaving? Who knows? It could be expired contracts not renewed, desire to leave from creative differences or a new project underway. Some might want to believe that BodyandSoul is what caused him to fired, but I believe because of his obligation to his Writer's Union is what could've ended this partnership. DOOL, any Soap for that matter, is mostly a non-union production. Having to abruptly leave like that may not have sit well with the corporate higher-ups.

Either way, we will see new changes to come in writing style by Spring. Despite the B&S hiccups, I'm still looking forward to Doug's tribute coming up in a few months, Connie getting exposed (which honestly should've happened this week), an upcoming DiMera vs. Titan in business, and Sarah's journey to recovery from her accident very similar to her mother Maggie's (Hoping to see her get up off her wheelchair and walk to Xander as a Christmas/New Year's miracle).

The baby switch reveal turned out to be not how I expected but still exciting. Soon Sloan and Nicole will come head to head and the question will be will Sloan get away despite her crime being known or will she go to prison? Melinda appears to be in the same boat as she'll confronted with her part in it, though the spoilers tell us she'll still be in Salem, so prison is not in the cards for her.

Nicole leaving by the end of July stills has mixed feelings but it's heavily implied the character is leaving as opposed to dying. Jude will also return to Eric, how and when is the debate. Will Holly have something to do with it? Will Sloan and/or Melinda play a trump card on EJ?

Speaking off him, EJ running for mayor (again) could lead to interesting story possibilities. EJ winning could give him a power base in Salem outside of DiMera and District Attorney since both positions will be barred from him and with Nicole and Jude gone, there's nothing holding him back from being ruthless and more conniving than ever. This also could bring back Clint Rawlings with an agenda of his own against Paulina and maybe EJ himself since he obviously judges past actions and arrogantly admits it.

Xander's mother coming into the story will help push the reveal of his true linage and put Alex back in his place. He will definitely have a lot of kissing up to do when the truth comes out.

There's also supposed to be Prom drama coming our way. A little late if it's in June but seeing a secret romance blow up could be interesting. This also what might prompt Holly to leave Nicole's care and live with someone else, since she is still stating in Salem by Fall.

As the drug ring arc comes to a close, here are some theories on how it could end for everyone.

*Clyde attempts to break out of prison only to be stopped by Steve and John, after which he tells them where to find Tripp and Wendy, who'll survive,

*Goldman panics (again, it's clear she killed the one drug suspect during a "bust" to cover her tracks) and tries to kill Stefan and possibly Ava to cover her involvement with Clyde. She will meet her end by one of them or Harris.

*Paulina, in need of a heart, will receive Goldman's heart at the last minute. The pain and grief of losing Paulina finally restores Abe's memories.

*New Gabi appears on screen and her and Stefan attempt to find out who framed her for Li's death, and Clyde might hold the connection to it.

*Konstantin's plans make him the next Big Bad and John is helpless to stop himself. Determined to end this chapter once and for all, he pays a visit to Diane Colville for answers since Steve either will not talk or the two become at odds since his partner lied to him all those years.

*As for Baby Jude and Xander's problems with baby switches and long lost sons, those are still being dragged on until we reach the tipping point in summer when Nicole gets Jude back (Before Arianne Zucker's exit)

**Xander probably will learn the truth from Konstantin in a vain attempt to save himself from prison or death so the group can focus their rage on Theresa. He will claim his birthright and kick Alex to the curb, whether warranted or not.

*Doug's off-screen death will most likely occur during the October-December period where I know nothing at this point.

Meant to do this weeks ago, but here are my thoughts on the passing of Bill Hayes and what it means down the road.

What read on Hayes over the years was nothing short of a man who enjoyed making people happy through performing. He had a #1 hit song with "The Ballad of Davy Crockett" and a decent TV and Broadway resume even before Days of Our Lives.

My first introduction to Doug came with the Salem Stalker storyline where he was "killed off" by Marlena. Long story short, it was a crazy. Especially afterwards. Soon the show fell of my radar but he was character that never left my mind. Looking at past clips of Doug in the 70s and 80s, i saw his character change and grow as well plenty of singing bits. It's easy to tell that Hayes relished every moment they allowed it. Even though he was in a wheelchair during Dick Van Dyke's guest spot, it didn't stop him from enjoying the time to sing with another legend. He will be missed and I'm grateful to seen what little I could of this wonderful man.

So, what now? Much like with John Aniston, The Cast and Crew get time to mourn and later prepare how they're going to write off Doug. We know his last airdate will be in by May. I'm sure even now that they are writing a storyline that will align well in DAYS' real-time. My guess is that late November, December, or even January of next year, is when we'll see a funeral story with many actors returning for a farewell such as Hope, Shawn, Belle and others. So it'll be a long while until this comes into fruition.

As of this week, there is no trace Albert Alarr in the production credits. Ken Corday's new partner is longtime show producer Janet Spellman-Drucker. Hopefully, the past six months of production have been better of all people involved since the scandal.

At this point, here's what we know. Gabi is recast, Harris is leaving in June/July, and a big scandal is going to rock Salem to its core. There are two major storylines with this potential, the drug arc and Victor's long lost son arc.

What could happen:

*Konstantin could reveal the truth to save himself or Theresa will slip up due to negligence or guilty conscience because of how Alex is treating Justin.

**When Xander finds out, all three get the works from him, Maggie, Justin and everyone else. Alex still behaving the way he does will make him look bad either way

*Lucas and Harris uncover the drug ring and Ava and Stefan come clean about Clyde.

**EJ might get in some trouble because Stefan or even EJ himself will reveal his knowledge of his brother's involvement and Mayor Paulina will consider firing him, especially for what he's doing to Tate

*Gabi's return could mean a return to her case where is proven innocent in Li's death.

**Two ways it could play out: First, Li could've faked his death with Rolf's help to punish Gabi. He overconfidently thinks EJ will help his endeavor of revenge, but to save face from the drug fiasco, he'll rat him out to free Gabi, if only to save his job.

**Li is actually dead. Perhaps Clyde want him to do the drug pushing but turns him down. Is stabbed but overhears the plot to frame Gabi and before he died, he tries to warn Tripp and Wendy but succumbs to his injures

**Or it's a mix of both and is just off on an island somewhere. It's a soap after all.

*Baby Jude will reunite with Nicole after Sloan gives into her guilt or another DNA test is done. EJ read the results in the safe and learns of Jude's parentage. He'll keep it to himself to salvage his relationship with Nicole and keep Eric away since he sees their connection is still strong. In time, Eric will find out that Jude's his. But it might not be until close to the Holidays. I see this arc being the one to drag out that far.

*Abe's memory will finally return as Paulina gets more sick. His worry and concern fills in the gaps in his memory due to be in a similar situation when Colin had him and Paulina hostage. Whether Paulina will live depends on the next direction of her story.

*John's pawn status is reactivated and more of his past is uncovered due to Konstantin knowing John from a point in his own past. Diane Colville might hold the key to this arc because she's back too. Leo playing a role is 50/50. But if he turns out to be John's son, he might use it as an excuse to integrate himself into the family for con purposes...or perhaps this might what makes his heart grow three sizes by Christmas.

**Steve and Marlena might work together to reprogram John.

What I would want to happen on the show (thought it might not happen this year or for the forseeable future)

*Rachel realizing how dangerous her mother is.

*Orpheus returning and forcing Salem to look for his son and grandson after Jan Spears made them disappear.

*Bo waking up and forgiving Shawn for shooting him while also coming to terms with Victor's death as well as his mother's death since she died while he was frozen by Megan and Rolf.

*An arc where Philip's son Tyler, whom he gave up for adoption, returns to Salem to claim his Kiriakis birthright or just to find him.

*An arc where J.T. Reiber, Zack Brady's doppelganger, from a previous baby switch story, returns to inquire about Rolf, his maternal great uncle. Also, if he is just as smart as Rolf, it would be nice have a scientific battle of wits between the two.

That's about it for now.

As I mentioned on my Y&R blog page, I had this idea for Lola to switch over to Days of Our Lives! We already have one crossover character, Sally, so why not another? My plan goes a little something like this. So we know that Lola was born and raised in Miami, and we also know that Chanel, Paulina, and Lani are from Miami too. Well, imagine that Lola and Chanel are old friends from Florida! They seem to be about the same age so I think it’s entirely plausible that they could have run in the same social circles. Especially since baking and cooking go hand in hand! They’re both involved in the culinary arts, and I think that would be the perfect reason to get Lola onto Days of Our Lives! Chanel could realize that as the bakery gets more popular, she needs more help, and who better to jump in then her pal Lola? The way I see it, Lola might be looking for a new career opportunity after she finishes her internship, and returning to GC won’t appeal to her now that Rey is gone and Kyle is back. Also, Tripp seems to be in need of a new love interest and I think Lola could be a good fit for him! (Ace-spectrum individuals can still be in romantic relationships.)

I am just . . . stunned by Tripp's sacrifice. I mean–

Devil: You're willing to die for someone who didn't love you, who cheated on you? You were always her second choice! And I'm the one who's stupid?

Tripp: I don't care if Allie would rather be with Chanel. I still love her.

I can't remember the last time something on the show moved me so much. I never really cared much for the devil drama up until now but I honestly thought that was a pretty poignant conclusion to the storyline.

I know the social community here is pretty much nonexistent but can I just say that Chanel has endured more than enough heartbreak for one lifetime and deserves much love and happiness from here on out okay that's all bye.
