Catherina Greene (Meleounis) is a character on the soap opera Days of Our Lives, portrayed by Greek actress, Ellie Patrikios. Susan Matus Elena took over the role from December 10, 2014 to December 12, 2024.
Background
Catherina Meleounis Greene is the daughter of Konstantin Meleounis and Elizabeth Meleounis, and the mother of Cat, Mark, Aaron, and Felicity Greene. Her life has been marked by deception and survival, starting with her faked death as a child. Catherina grew up in Greece as the beloved daughter of Konstantin, a prominent restaurant owner and former friend-turned-rival of Victor Kiriakis.
However, her life changed dramatically when her mother, Elizabeth, sought to escape her abusive marriage to Konstantin. Desperate to protect Catherina and herself, Elizabeth turned to Victor for help. Victor devised a plan to fake Catherina's death, enlisting John Black (then known as The Pawn) to stage the event. During a confrontation at Konstantin's villa in Aria, Greece, Catherina pretended to shield her father from a bullet, making her "death" appear real. The plan worked, and Elizabeth fled to the United States with Catherina, raising her in secret. Unaware of the ruse, Konstantin was devastated by his daughter's "death" and vowed revenge on The Pawn, whom he blamed for the tragedy.
In the United States, Catherina married a man named Mr. Greene and had four children: Cat, Mark, Aaron, and Felicity. However, her life took another dark turn when Clyde Weston, faked her death again—this time in a staged car crash. The crash was believed to have killed Catherina and her husband while leaving their eldest daughter, Cat, severely injured. In reality, Clyde held Catherina hostage for years, using her as leverage to manipulate her children, Cat and Mark.
Storylines
In the Kiriakis-controlled region of Aria, Catherina lived with her mother, Elizabeth Meleounis, and her abusive father, Konstantin. Elizabeth, desperate to escape the abusive marriage but knowing Konstantin would never let her leave with their daughter, turned to Victor Kiriakis for help. Victor devised a plan to fake the death of Catherina. Under Victor's orders, John Black, then known as The Pawn, was sent to carry out the scheme. The plan unfolded at Konstantin's estate. Under the guise of delivering a violent message, John confronted Konstantin and staged a shooting. To make it appear real, Catherina pretended to step in front of a bullet aimed at her father. She was presumed dead, with her "death" staged convincingly enough to fool Konstantin. Elizabeth and Catherina secretly fled to the United States, where Elizabeth raised her daughter in safety and away from Konstantin's reach. The two remained in hiding, keeping their past a secret to avoid detection. Believing his daughter to be dead, Konstantin swore vengeance on The Pawn. For years, he searched relentlessly for John Black, intending to make him pay for his perceived crime. Years later, Konstantin finally discovered John's identity and location, reigniting his quest for revenge.
Catherina later married Mr. Greene and had four children, Mark, Cat, Aaron, and Felicity. She was involved in a car accident that claimed the life of her husband and left her daughter, cat, severely injured. She was presumed dead but was really being held hostage by Clyde Weston.
After months of worrying and threats from Clyde, Cat finally saw Catherina for herself, but Catherina was not fine. She had been manipulated by Clyde into believing he was her friend and used the fact that Cat no longer looked like herself as a way to try and manipulate into her killing Cat and Chad DiMera.
Chad managed to disarm Catherina without harming her, and they tied her up. Chad left Cat with Catherina giving her a gun for protection as he went to find Clyde. Cat finally managed to convince Catherina on who she was, and asked her daughter to untie her for a hug.
Catherina hugged Cat, and then stole her gun, apologizing and raising off saying she can't let the son of a bitch get away with what he did, Catherina barged into Clyde's apartment and shot him from the door. Catherina soon comes to regret her decision when she learns Clyde has valuable information for Chad, the man who helped rescue her.
Catherina is taken to the same hospital that a barely alive Clyde is taken to. She is checked out by the doctors before being arrested. Catherina apologies to Cat and says she loves her and her siblings, and asks if they are other are fine. Cat says they are and Catherina is taken away to the station, so Cat leaves to go with her and makes sure she has an attorney.
