Gertrude Spears was a very strict and control mother and came to town to found her daughter Jan Spears was pregnant and had a sexually transmitted disease and then she also found Shawn Douglas Brady was "the father" and when Jan Spears continue to stay with Shawn and family Gertrude grew angry of the living arrangements and found out that her daughter was lying about Shawn being the father when in fact her daughter was raped by Paul Mendez and yet Jan Spears continued to stay with Shawn instead of going home to her parents and then Jan got into a fight with Belle Black which caused Jan Spears stress during her entire pregnancy even Mimi Lockhart so then Jan Spears was getting ready for a day out of the house she tripped down the stairs and Bo Brady found her at bottom of the stairs and rushes her to the hospital where her Baby Mendez-Spears was stillborn and Gertrude returned to give Jan her condolences to her grandchild.
Gertrude and her husband died a year later after Jan left town to spend time with them in Europe and was supposedly killed there and Jan Spears continued her reign of terror over Shawn and Belle.
