Gertrude Spears was a character from the soap opera Days of Our Lives.
Storylines
Gretrude and her daughter Jan.
Gertrude Spears was a very strict and controlling mother. She came to Salem when she found her daughter Jan Spears was pregnant, and had a sexually transmitted disease. When she found Shawn Douglas Brady was "the father", and and that Jan continued to stay with Shawn and his family, Gertrude grew angry. Gertrude found our about the living arrangements, and knew that Jan was lying about Shawn being the father. The horrible truth was that her daughter was raped by Paul Mendez. Jan continued to stay with Shawn instead of going home with her parents and got into a fight with Belle Black, which caused Jan stress during her entire pregnancy. Jan was getting ready for a day out of the house, when she tripped and fell down the stairs. Bo Brady found her at bottom of the stairs and rushed her to the hospital. At the hospital, Jan gave birth to Baby Mendez-Spears. However the baby was stillborn. Gertrude returned to give Jan her condolences to her grandchild.
Gertrude and her husband died a year later after Jan left town to spend time with them in Europe, and was supposedly killed there.
