In 1976, Phyllis became pregnant, but she attempted to have an abortion when she thought that Neil didn't want the baby. Phyllis was told that she was too far along to have an abortion, so she attempted to overdose on pills when Neil found her.
She eventually lost the baby when she tried to pick up a drunken Neil one night. Nathan was born prematurely and died a few days later.
