The Dr. Tom Horton Free Clinic is a free clinic named in honor of Tom Horton and founded in 2025 by EJ DiMera. The clinic was created to hide a secret lab for Dr. Rolf.
History
In 2025, EJ DiMera buys Salem University Hospital and starts to build the Tom Horton Free Clinic. On the outside it appears like a genuine free clinic but beneath the surface lies a secret lab. Gwen Rizczech is revealed to be EJ's silent partner in his hospital purchase. He plans a gala for its opening with the help of Stephanie Johnson. ISA agent Cat Greene and FBI agent Rafe Hernandez, begin investigating EJ's purchase and his true plans, as they suspect something nefarious. Cat gets a job as EJ's hospital assistant to spy on him. During the construction, a Salem-wide blackout is caused due to the clinic needing extra power. Mayor Paulina Price Carver threatens to sue EJ and the hospital over the blackout. Salem Spectator journalist, Leo Stark begins snooping around after connecting the blackout to the clinic. EJ offers Mark Greene, who has just been released from prison, a "private research" job. EJ's assistant, Rita Lesley, informs him that Leo has been snooping around the clinic construction. He calls Leo a problem that has to be handled. EJ introduces Mark to Wilhelm Rolf in the clinic, whom EJ refers to as Mark's supervisor and says they'll be spending a lot of time together. The night of the gala, Gwen receives a human-sized crate in the clinic which she tells "Welcome home." Later, Rolf walks around the lab when he stares at a cryogenic chamber and says he thinks he's getting closer to the breakthrough they've been waiting for. EJ visits the lab and tells the cryogenic chamber, "Our family reunion is long overdue. Wouldn't you say?" Later in the lab, Rolf and Mark are seen working. When Mark realizes the test subject is deceased he tries to dispose of them. Rolf tells him to be silent and watch him. Rolf takes a syringe of versavix and injects them with it. Rolf realizes Kayla Brady Johnson and EJ are outside of the lab and hides in a hidden passageway. Kayla and EJ enter the lab and she looks around and sees everything is normal. Kayla tells Mark and EJ that she will be checking in on the lab periodically. On Thanksgiving, EJ visits the lab and tells the chamber "Most people spend Thanksgiving with their loved ones. Looks like paying you a visit will be the closest I get to that this year." EJ pulls up a chair and says, "Rolf tells me he's on the verge of a breakthrough in his animal trials. I pray this means I'll be seeing you very soon." Later, Rolf is in the lab with animal test subjects when he says "Don't look so down, my lifeless rodents. Consider your stay in the hereafter simply a kleiner Umweg, a small detour. It's only a matter of time before you are happily running around your wheel again." Gwen summons EJ to the clinic and reveals that if Rolf mixes versavix with his serum, he can expand his abilities to bring people back from the dead. Starting with the person in the pod.
