Vern Scofield is a character on the soap opera Days of Our Lives, portrayed by Wayne Heffley From 1988-93.
Storylines
Vern raised three children alone after the death of his wife, Nancy. For years, Vern and his children Brian Scofield, Tanner Scofield, and Cassie Scofield believed only that Nancy had killed herself. Thanks to some detective work by Tanner, they found out that Nancy had been raped by a professor at the university, Gavin Newirth, which had led to her death. Vern's primary role was to be Jack Deveraux's right-hand man at the Spectator, and he was a huge fan of Jack Deveraux and Jennifer Horton's relationship. Jennifer, whom he called Jenny-girl, was a particular favorite of his. In the early nineties, he began dating Jo Johnson, Jack's mother, whom he had been secretly infatuated with for a few years. He disappeared from the Salem scene in 1993.
In 2002, it was revealed that Vern and Jo had married and were living in Salem. They returned for Jacks "funeral" in 2003 and later for Jack and Jennifer's wedding and Farwell in 2006.
Although Heffley passed away in 2008, Vern was mentioned as still alive in December 2016.
